YOU’VE NOT FORGOTTEN THE LINE THAT MADE IT STAND OUT; "THE MAGAZINE OF RAILROADING’ , BUT IN THE CASE OF THE LATEST ISSUE,
THAT IS PROBABLY GUILDING THE LILLY.
Due to the weather of the last couple of days and school closures, I’ve been able to curl up with the December issue. Should be a lot of happy campers out there, because there is something for everyone,
Congratulations, Jim Wrinn and Company; I’m looking forward to the next issue, and the next, and [bow]
I have been reading Trains for 50 years [:O]. As I recall I started with a bang and “Who Shot the Passenger Train”. That issue generated heated debates for the next few decades! It is good to have The Magazine of Railroading coming in the mail each month and I look forward to seeing this reincarnation of the magazine develop.
Actually, I’m still looking forward to my January 2007 issue, which I believe is the one everyone else is curling up with. Guess I’ll have to go to work tomorrow instead.[:(]
I’m glad you had the wrong issue in mind. because (personally) I was a bit disappointed with the actual december issue, and if you were saying it was great, then we just disagree.
But since you say the Jan issue is the good one, that means I have something to look forward to. [tup]
No Sir, didn’t like it. I mean, the least Kalmbach could’ve done is put the top FOUR states on the cover! [:P][swg]
Just Kidding guys. Excellent issue. I really enjoyed reading that one. As for FM, well…I guess all I can suggest is that you stop and think about how much time has been consumed by all the readers of this forum spent reading your posts. I think it’ll probably come out a lot higher than 4 minutes and 37 seconds.
I might be the only one out there who was disappointed with the January’07 issue. To me, it read like a pamphlet; the main article arranged in short little snippets of info. I know it was presented that way, but that is what I disliked about it. Oh well, can’t please everyone.[2c]
I heard that this issue contained information about the Sunset situation east of Nea Orleans and info about the UP delays on the Sunset Route and what’s being done. Could anyone fill me in on these 2 items, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Gee-tough crowd![:O] I would bet that people in Chicago get their Trains Magazine shipped from Milwaukee faster than some of the other subscribers, or the newsatands. I’m not sure that bitting someone in the butt is really considered a nice way to welcome a new forum member.[V]
Welcome to the forum Benson. We’re generally a pretty nice bunch of folks-including Poppa Zit.
Survey says…There is an article in the News&Photos section by Tom Murray. In summary, it says that UP is accelerating the pace at which they are double tracking The Sunset Route. Plan is to have have double-tracking 50%complete by the end of 2007, complete by 2011. The rest of the article talks about growth and traffic on the line.
Ease up, guys. I came in to congratulate all the folks in Illinois for being judged the best train watching state in the new Trains. Course I already knew that, being right across the river. I’ve spent a lot of happy hours in Illinois, watching and photographing trains. Most of the area covered is in Metro-East, mainly Madison, St. Clair and Monroe counties.
My first train trip was St. Louis-Chicago on the GM&O when I was 16. I’ve mostly railfanned in the southern part of the state, and didn’t start taking photos until I was in my early 40’s, about 1976.
The saddest sight I ever saw was on that first trip to Chicago. It was along Western Avenue, I believe. There were acres of rusty steam engines being cut up for scrap. That’s when I realized the diesels were here to stay. Would that have been C&NW?
Speaking of the Jan.07 Trains,If any Texas boys out there want to read it, the lastest issue of Classic Trains has a very good articlle on Texas & Pacific…Danny
