Retail Price: $149.98
Internet Trains Price: $106.99

Just wondering how the forum feels about the quality of this product and if its a reasonable price

In my experience the Trainline range is pretty good - I have a couple of coil cars, a caboose, and a Dash 8. The coil cars were very good indeed and only needed Kadees and a little ballast to bring them up to standard, the Dash 8 runs well and has reasonable detailing. The caboose needed a little more work (changed couplers, spray-painted underframe to get rid of the “moulded plastic” look, glazed the windows) but was worth the effort considering how little it cost (£5).

Seems reasonable to me. I don’t know about the locomotives that come in the Trainline set, but I have a couple of their locomotives that Walthers sells directly, and while I have read a lot of complaints about them, I find them to be pretty good units.

trainline is good and so is the price.

Trainline, is some good stuff, and it has some fair prices. I have a few cars and 4 loco’s of the Trainline.

If you stay away from the gimmicked trainline cars then your fine.

Just dont buy the FA unit they sell, the proportions on the nose are all wrong.

I’m betting that the UP passenger would have an FA1 up front pulling their new heavyweights behind it?

It’s a decient price and Trainline is solid for beginers. The things they make can be found with much more detail elsewhere but not for anything near the price. Walthers made a very smart move getting out of the uber-full premium locomotives market and introducing a mid rage product with very good mechanics and passible looks.

I’ve got a Trainline FA-1 that I use in local freight service from time to time and while the nose is off, it’s not that glaring a flaw. It needed some serious detailing to look right with the rest of my equipment but that was about all. The mechanics are solid and I’ve never had a problem with it. I’ve also got a few of their F40PHs in service on my commuter line and again they needed some detailing but never had a problem with them.

If someone is just starting out in the hobby I’d recomend Trainline right off, these trains will get going well and still be part of a larger layout as one progresses in the hobby.

I have 3 of the Trainline engines. 2 GP’s and one -8. Great for the price. Walthers service for warranty is also great if you have a problem.

I’ve got a number of Trainline FAs and FBs that I used to use on the club’s portable layout for train show. Not the most detailed of locomotives but really good, basic runners and pretty good pullers that seem to never die or give trouble. Can’t say anything particular about the TL rolling stock…don’t have any.

Assuming locos in set same as sold individually:
Reliable [:D]
Pull very well [:D]
As noted in other posts the detail isn’t there. I do give them credit for a decent NH paint scheme. Older NH scheme is not the simplest to replicate and for units built for a low price Walthers did themselves proud. [tup] [tup]
Search forum, there was another thread about Walthers Trainline fairly recently. Find that and you may have even more feedback for your decision.
