Easy answer, yes. However, don’t use the concentrated “anti-bacterial” type soaps that contain lanolin and other moisturizers. You can use Dawn (plain) or original Ivory liquid. You only need a drop.
Before washing, allow it sufficient cure time. If you wash it prematurely the primer, being water based, will wash off. [^o)]
Curious: Were not your hands clean when you handled the shell? I normally use latex gloves because my hands become a little moist as I work on projects. But in the past when I’ve run out of gloves I always washed my hands and dried them thoroughly.
