Re-wheeling ("quartering") Lionel Prewar Steam Loc

Does anyone have experience with either
replacing the drive wheels on a Lionel Prewar Steam Locomotive or adjusting the wheels so that they are "quartered correctly?

It is my understanding that the drivers on the opposite sides should be at about 90 degrees out of sync to prevent binding. That is, when one screw hole is lined up at 12:00 o’clock the screw hole on the opposite side should be at 3:00 o’clock.

Perhaps more importantly, does anyone have any tips on actually putting the whole assembly back together.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance,
Greg

You are correct about “Quartering” the drivers. This goes for any steam locomotive. That way the engine was always on a power stroke and could not get stuck. North West Short Line makes a Quartering jig. Mine is for smaller locos (HO & N scale)but I think they have a bigger one also.
