Reading Camelback - My Dad's 1947 Shots

Here are two pictures of my dad’s of the same train (well same equipment), but based on the dates on the back of the images, taken some months apart. They are both of Camelback #1588 with a Work Train set.

I would really love any additional information that anyone may have, not just on the locomotive, but maybe on the crane, or on the old wooden cars in the one photo.

First image is a closeup of #1588 on a side track.

Second image if of the #1588 pulling the train through the station.

Thanks for looking, and as always, corrections are welcome.

XCharles like always I would like to Thank You for sharing your Dads Photos I always enjoy looking at them Larry

I’m pretty sure that we don’t have the same crane, or same type of crane, in both pictures, Charles. The one in the first shot doesn’t appear to be a wrecking crane.

Everything about these pictures is fascinating!

…Can’t add anything except that I enjoy seeing your period photos of railroading in that era.

I keep thinking how “distant” it all seems when in my mind that period was a “coming out” of war atmosphere to the new “rebuild” time…Actually, in my way of thinking, society really made a transformation to the “new’” era. By that I mean, rebuilding everything in our society that had been “used up” during the war years by necessity to get the job done.

Thanks for all the comments – and now that I look closer, I agree… the crane does look different. If it is the same, it is at least pointing a different direction.

I’m definetely not certain that the second I-8 is #1588 anymore. I’ll take a magnifying glass to the orginal, but I don’t expect it to help. I doubt the lens actually was able to capture the road number.

Great pix Charles ! I like to look at the scenery in your pix,I like the way things looked back then…Bldgs, trains cars etc…

Thanks for sharing…
