Ready to Begin Again

I posted a few weeks ago about re-entering the hobby after 25+ years away. Someone replied about the increased detail on new locomotives, but I was skeptical. Well now I’m sold. Today two Spectrum On30 locos arrived in the mail: a 0-2-0 Porter and a 2-truck Shay. All I can say is “Wow.” The detail is incredible.

Honestly, I was not expecting much when I placed them on two sections of old flex tracks hooked up to my trusty MRC Tech II, Locomotion 2500. After all, the track and controller had been in a cardboard for a quarter century, but frankly, I was anxious to see something run. After a few brushes with a track cleaner I tested them one by one and they both ran perfectly. Slowly, steadily, without jerkiness.

Ready to start now.

Congratulations on your purchases and success. Now, get some curved track so that they can chase themselves around a loop. Though it’s not much, it’s movement. Movement of the trains will make you want to get a better place for them to run. — And you’re off.

Have had a 2500 for some time too. Still keeps ‘em movin’ with no problems.

By the way, 0-2-0??? I hope you mean an 0-4-0.

Have fun,

Richard
