I’m looking to control a g-scale DCC loco by either a real used Diesel Locomotive Control Stand, or build my own. I’ve heard of this being done back in my HO days in DC, so I’m wondering if there is some info out there, so I don’t have to duplicate the efforts. I don’t want anything real fancy, just throttle, reversing lever, brakes, horn, and lights. I’m thinking of using an x10 cameria so i can see down the track.
Unfortunately I cannot give you a citation to the exact issues but MR had an article on building a control stand that looked very much like the real thing even though the basic material was, I think, masonite (highly glossed to look like metal). In fact that was on the cover as I recall, probably late 1960s or early 1970s
And another article on a guy who actually purchased large portions of the front end of a retired F-7 and reworked it to be the controls for his layout – complete with cab seats, windows, bulldog nose, headlights etc.
