I am creating a Whitewater river. The river goes from heavy whitewater through the canyon to a rippled water where rafts are put in and then back to whitewater. My question is this. Has anyone used Enviro-Tex mixed with Acylic products such as Molding Paste, Gels, Etc? I need to create a transition between the two types of waters. The photo below may give you a better visual idea of the area. Any other ideas are always welcome. Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi,
What you have for white water is gorgeous. My only suggestion would be to prepaint the river bottom in the slower water area, so that the water there is transparent enough to see the varigated brown of the river bed. Don’t mix paint or putty with the water in this area, or it will lose it’s transparency. Bob Hahn
The painting is only a base . I will be repainting as well as adding rocks and other good things before pouring the Enviro-Tex. I was concerned with the transition area where I no longer want it to be clear as the river starts to churn again. I am try to find out if you can mix the two products. I appreciate your advice.
I’ve mixed a bit of acrylic craft paint with Envirotex Lite and had great results. I only add a drop or two to a typical 2 to 4 ounce pour. This is enough to lightly tint the water without making it opaque. On some test pours I did, I used more paint. The Envirotex hardened up fine, but it was completely opaque and didn’t look realistic anymore.
Did it still have that water look? The opaque is fine as the transition would be that way. Other then that there was no problem with the Enviro-Tex?
hwolf, check your PMs please.

Sorry Tom. I don’t know what PM’S are. Please inform.
Oh, up towards the top of the page, on the right, under your profile, you have an inbox. Click on it, I sent you a link to another modeling site. I wasn’t sure if posting the link was allowed, so I sent it in a Private Message.
Tom
Tom, posting a link is good. I’m interested in water too. [:)]

I thought it looked more like green glass than water. It did set up just fine, though, and seemed fine many months later when I tossed that chunk of samples while cleaning up my workroom.
I guess the lesson is that you can use as much acrylic color as you’d like, but it will eventually stop looking like water. I use a very small amount, because I want the water to darken very slightly as it gets deeper. I use more tint in the bottom layer, where I add blue or black, and less on the top where I’m using a light green. After you mix it, the color won’t change much as it sets, so if you like the color in the cup, you’ll probably like it on your layout.
Hi Wolfgang
For some reason the diorama in the link has a figurine of a lady that some members might find inappropriate. I’ll PM it to you.
Thank you. I like the lady more than the tank. [:)]
Great how to!

Re: tinting EnTex, etc - anybody ever try food color(s)? Just a thought…
It sounds like we are on the same path. I would like to know if anyone has added Acrylic Gel (Gloss Medium) to Enviro-Tex. The gel does not add color. It dries completly transparant. I use it alone when I want a water that contains shapes such as ripples or wake behind a boat. In this case I want the depth of Enviro-Tex but then the transition to Whitewater which will have shape. I put down the Enviro-Tex yesterday and I am going to put a layer of Gloss on top to see what happens. I still would like to know if anyone has tryed to mix them before placing.

It looks great. What product did you use for the river and the whitewater? I use both the Matte Medium and the Gloss along with Enviro-Tex. I am still trying to find out if anyone has mixed the Gloss with the Enviro-Tex and if so what were the results. Below is a photo of the whitewater river which is coming along. I still am going to increase the height of the water and the peaks. Any comments are greatly appreciated.
I use Mod Podge gloss. You can get a pint of it for about $6 in the craft aisle at Walmart. The trick is to put several coats on, and to tease up the surface as it dries. I touch the tips of the “waves” with some dry brushed white, then put another couple of coats of gloss to give it some dimension.
I’m curious, why would you use matte medium to do water?

Sorry for the confusion. The Matte Medium I use as a sealer over the plaster base to seal it before I paint the bottom. Being my wife is an artist I have found a couple of great products. There is a BEADED GEL which has a slight blue tint and when it dries it give the apperance of water filled with air. Perfect around the waterfalls. I also found HEAVY GEL GLOSS which is what I started to use along with MOLDIND PASTE to create the whitewater. I found out today when the Gel dried it turned clear but the molding paste did not.
Would you please send me the link as well?
Thanks,
Dave
