Great photos, and particularly timely for me as I’m about ready to start laying track in my layout’s yard.
The variations in ballast are interesting. I also really like the abandoned and partially-pulled tracks disappearing into the weeds. That would be fun to try and replicate somewhere on the layout.

I am building my yard right now. I am using a commbination of two colors of ballast and dirt (Woodland Scenics earth blend). I am trying to depict areas where ballast is thin (dirt) and areas where engine traffic is high (darker ballast). These pictures are great and helpful.
Those are great yard pics! I like the multi-level shot.
I have a few yard shots myself and since this seems to be developing into a study on yard design I’ll throw mine in.
