"REAL" Rubber Air, Sand & MU Hoses. Anybody have them??

Has anyone bought these yet? I am real curious as how they really look. Are they easy to install. If you bought the MU Hoses did you get the Freight “BUNGEE” type or the “STANDARD” type? Below is a link to them. If you painted them which type did you use?

I have used their diaphragms, and I would imagine that the rubber they use for the hoses are the same that they use for the “springs” on their diaphragms. All I did for those was drill the holes at the size they recommended and used ACC to glue them into place. That worked very well. I haven’t tried to paint them yet, so I am no help there. I will say that the rubber is very pliable/soft, so I don’t know how well they would take paint anyhow.

They put out some very nice details, but I am trying to justify spending the money to outfit an entire passenger train with their diaphragms.

No but I just ordered a couple of sets, thanks for the link

H8,

Send me an email when you get them and let me know what you think.

Thanks

I bought a used loco that had them installed. They look great! No more fragile than cast pewter. Thanks for the link. I was wondering where they came from.

Hi Mike, I first saw them on another forum installed on some gondolla cars and decided to give them a try. I love them and they look great too! I have currently done 10 cars, tanks and gons, and I have just started to install them on a couple of locos too. I will continue to use them on most cars but we will see about the budget. The first one tested my patience pretty good but then rest was very easy.

The first pic is an Atlas, the 2nd is a Walthers and the last is of an Intermoutain gondola.

John,

They look great. In fact they are the best looking hoses I have seen so far. I will be placing an order. It looks like you got the “BUNGEE” type. They seem to look better then the ones without the bungee cord. What paint & color did you use to paint them???

Thanks

Mike

I got them through my LHS and he got them through Walthers. It seemed like the bungee ones were the only ones available. I used Testors silver paint for the little paint that I did use. I will post a pic of the locos when they are done. Remember that they are made of rubber, so they are hard to grasp when you try to paint them and install them but once you get it, then it’s a breeze.

I’ve heard a couple complaints about the register between the molds and how they leave a nasty mold line down the middle of the hose. You guys having that issue?

John.

Mike

I used rubber shrink tubing air hoses for some of my detailed diesels models. I had to purchase the brass ones, remove both the ends and insert them into scale size shrink tubing. They do look very nice and are flexible but I had to purchase the brass ones also. The tubing comes in black and the smallest size I could find matches the size of the brass air hoses. It is a nice detail, but I would not use them for the MU hoses since the plastic ones are OK.

Nothing thus far.

Hi Mike, I managed to install the rubber hoses on my locomotives and took a couple of shots for you to see. I will NOT be using the loco hoses again! They are short and flimsey and just don’t look right. But I will continue to use them exclusively on my rolling stock.
