Realistic Coupling

How can you enable close coupling?

Just added something on the topic on page 3 here:

Mount the couplers closer together?

Jim

There are options: you can buy short-shank couplers, or you can fill in the threaded hole and drill and tap a little further in, making sure the draft gear box doesn’t interfer with the axel of the closest wheel set. I used the short shank couplers on my diesel units to bring them to the proper distance apart which in the case of 'F’s is 3 feet. But don’t expect to run on 18" radius curves, eh? jc 5729 John Colley, Port Townsend, WA

I’m completely lost on this forum, short-shank? draft gear? ‘F’=3 feet? what language is this? The title “Realistic coupling” I interpreted as coupling without the use of the giant hand and the bamboo skewer, was I wrong.

tatans,

look at http://kadee.com/

There’re all those different couplers and their meanings.

The OP says “close coupling” in the body of his post.

Didn’t McHenry come out with a close coupling setup for F units? I thought it was a complete kit to do 2 F units??

‘Close coupling’ is simple. Buy Kadee #43, #33, (or #23) couplers. (Stewart F Diesels #450); (Genesis Fs #38+#33s).

CAVEAT: They require more generous curves than many modelers have. I have 27" min. + #4s, #6s.

Get the Kadee #TH23, tiny hand, and reach in and lift the cut levers.[8D]

…but the title of thethread is something different.

I was expecting a thread about Sergent Engineering Couplers, not close coupling.
