REALLY annoying... whatever you do don't choose the send E mails option.

Bergie and Co…

Hate to say this… you’ve got this really wrong!

I opted for send E mails of posts… and got 194 e mails followed (5 minutes later) by another 198 [V]

This is not what I’m looking for!

Can we have the old “Watch this topic” back please?

You don’t want any send emails functionality turned on with this forum. As you have seen there’s just too much traffic on here for that feature to be anything but a nuisance. [swg]

We should get one (1) email only for every topic…

But then what happens when someone adds a new reply to the topic you subscribed to? Should you get one giant email witht he entire topic, repeating what you already have plus the one new message, or a short email with just the latest reply?

Unfortunately forums like this do not operate like listservs which aggregate all messages regardless of topic. The huge number of individual messages is why I always chose digest mode for all email lists I participate in. The new Yahoo format actually drive me nuts because now they group by topics in the digests. They used to be in simple message order - something I a totally comfortable with after 20 some years of participating in such things.

Depending on your mail program, what you could do is set up some rules to automatically dump each subscribed topic into its own folder. What you’d end up with stored in your email program is a subset of this entire forum though - is that REALLY necessary? It all made sense back in the days of Compuserve and pay by the minute internet access - the CIM program would log on to your Compiserve forums and download the messages at high speed, faster than you could read them, and make them available offline for reading and replying - keeping your actual online connection time to a minimum. There’s really not all that much need for that anymore. Have to check the information on this particular software, heck it might even have an RSS feed feature.

There is another forum I’m on (which much less traffic) that sends out an e-mail if a topic you are interested in has another comment on it. One per topic, until you log in again to check the forum.

Then it’ll send one per topic as they are updated again - until you log in again.

Keeps the e-mail count low.

sounds like it needs one notice when its replied to at least once, any more is buggers)

I usually just revisit the forum and look for the post.
