“These images, by photographers of the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information, are some of the only color photographs taken of the effects of the Depression on America’s rural and small town populations. The photographs and captions are the property of the Library of Congress and were included in a 2006 exhibit Bound for Glory: America in Color.”
WOW! Am subscriber to Remisice magazine, being an old geezer and the pictures meant something to me. Since I model in Transition Era, they will be very helpful. Some scenes I’ve observed here in NH, [since moving here 45 yrs. ago]could duplicate many of those photos; vehicles/ architecture included! TTFN…papasmurf
At the Library of Congress web site you can also see the HABS/HAER (Historical American Building Survey/Historical American Engineering Records) collections, which has plans and photos of a lot of buildings - including a lot of rail served and rail related buildings - more here: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/habs_haer/
Other notable photo resources elsewhere I have used quite a bit are the Shorpy web site with pictures from 1850 until 1950 (http://www.shorpy.com), and the Minnesota Historical Society’s visual collection web site (http://collections.mnhs.org/visualresources/).
There are lots of other nice photo collections out there, too
