Reasons to like Kijiji

TrueLine Trains, CP Rail RS18 train set, only missing some track, only ran at Christmas for a couple of years, railings not installed on the diesel, $25 Canadian which is what, $26 US [:)]

All the rolling stock & the loco is Proto1000. Ya Baby!

Ya done real good but i don’t think our American friends know what a Kijiji is

Eh?

(Sorry, that and “hoser” are the only Canadian words I know but I do know they’re usually used together as in “eh hoser”?)

I keep checking but here on the Left Coast I mostly see interesting stuff on Craigslist. The couple of things on Kijiji have been there for months and are not too interesting.

For those who might be interested, Kijiji is a free online site in major Canadian cities to buy, sell and whatever. (“Kijiji” means “village” in an African language.) It is owned by eBay to keep their fingers in local sales that probably would not happen on their main site. As I understand it, they did operate in the US for a while, but changed the name to eBay Yard Sales or something like that. Major Canadian cities do have Craiglist too, mine does not.

I’ve made great use of the local Kijiji site for non model railroad buying and selling. Earlier this month I bought a large lens for my camera from a fellow; I also sold off a bunch of old photography books, and a cordless phone/answering machine. I’ve bought and sold other camera lenses, sold off my digital cameras when I moved up to a new one. Great way to get rid of stuff with no fees. Our two married sons have made great deals on household items and baby things. It’s almost a way of life!

I check their site out regularly, and have seen some model trains stuff listed, but its usually just that - model train sets that have been played with, or a partially completed “layout” on a sheet of 4 by 8 plywood.

14 Peco turnouts, 4 of them curved and 25 pieces of code 83 track all for 50 bucks. Turnouts were all still in their packages. Pontiac 1970 Ram Air 4 455 motor for 500 bucks. 1978 Trans Am Snowflake rims and brand new NOS center caps still new in their boxes for 100 bucks. 1978 Y88 gold tinted T-tops in mint condition in NOS bags for 250 bucks. Oh yes KIJIJI is my new friend!!! I spend more time there now then I do on Ebay.

I got rid of 50’ of rotted wooden fence for free through Kijiji!!!

Every once & a while a steal like the one I got above rolls around & the Kijiji Gods were smiling on me that day. I didn’t hesitate to drive to Port Perry to get it either.

LUV Kijiji!!

Bob, I saw this “train set” in the box & said yes.

I got stupid lucky & was the first to reply. They said when I was picking it up that their email went crazy over this.

A few years ago, I picked up an IHC CN 4-8-4 with a bunch of Life-Like crap for $20. Kept the steamer got rid of everything else.

Thing runs like a dream!

LOVE Kijiji!!!

Just out of curiosity, what key words to people use the most? HO Scale, model railroad (way) electric trains, etc… Any others?

So let me get this straight, Canada is made up of “African Villages” ??? Whoa!!! I didn’t see that one coming…;-]

I’ve only looked in the “Hobbies & Crafts” section to see the listings for model trains. Any or all of the suggested words would probably do, but I’ve never done a search.

eBay, an American company, picked the name Kijiji for their free site.

i type any number of combinations of ho scale, ho train etc right on the first page cause not everyone picks hobbies & crafts as the section

And the French for Kijiji would be …?
