REAZ marked trailers and the Railway Express Agency? in 2006

Why are there still REAZ marked trailers on flatcars in 2006…

Who owns the marking?

To answer your question I did a google search and according to their classification under RRreporting marks this RM was retired in “04” Railway Express was bought by FedEx or one of those overnihgt freight companies several yrs ago…It probably is someone else’s trailer…[2c] Danny

REAZ was a reporting mark for TransAmerica (Leasing?) for many years. Unless there have been developments I’m not aware of, nobody bought the REAZ mark from TransAmerica. (Though UPS runs a lot of FSTZ-marked stuff, some of which carries non-matching ID inside the trailer. And I’ve never been able to determine who FSTZ is!)

Trans America was also a Insurance Company right??

Trans America was also a Insurance Company right??
“Diversified financial company” would be the term… [;)] Yeah, they did insurance too…

A quick Google search just revealed that TransAmerica Trailer Leasing was purchased by GE Capital in 1992 (!), and a lot of GE Capital’s leasing business was sold to Xtra (part of Berkshire Hathaway) shortly after they purchased CitiCapital (former Associates)! Yeah, quite a mess… Looks like TransAmerica is almost exclusively an insurance-based business now that it is owned by Dutch insurer AEGON, as some of the news articles I skimmed over mentioned selling off non-insurance assets…

Funny how a discussion on something remotely railroad-related involves four major financial companies!!! [%-)]

Banks and Railroads? Goes back to JP Morgan and the Rothchilds.

The point here is that Banks are intrested in investing in railroads assets but not there equity so much.

How could the avarage guy make a play in Railroad Equipment Leasing? I understand that there are equipment trust certificuts still out there on the market

So Railroad Reporting Marks are actauly worth money?

The LVRC has or Lamoile Valley has been out of buisness for like 9 years now and there still are plenty of cars on the road with those markings. Is there a finite number of markings? 26 X 4 sqaured?

The Vermont Railway has its logo on a number of semi-trailers, and gets paid for having their logo on the side of the trailer. Exactly how much, I don’t know.

Regarding those FSTZ reporting marks, are they related to the Santa Fe? Or maybe I’m confusing them with SFTZ. [%-)]

Let’s see if I can answer all of the actual reporting mark questions in this thread.

REAZ belongs to TIP Intermodal Services.

FSTZ belongs to Fastrac Intermodal LLC

“26 X 4 sqaured”

Actually, it’s 26^4 (That is, 26 raised to the fourth power…or, 26 x 26 x 26 x26 …assuming any four letter combination is allowable…

“REAZ belongs to TIP Intermodal Services.” – a/k/a GE

“FSTZ belongs to Fastrac Intermodal LLC” – UPS also owns Martrac (refrigerated trailers), so I guess it isn’t too far out of the realm of reality to say that they have some sizeable equity in Fastrac as well?

JSGreen/BuyCSXRailroadStock!: Also remember that the last letter can be used for certain purposes, e.g. “xxxZ” would be trailers, “xxxU” is for containers, and “xxxX” is for private-owner railcars…
