[#welcome] Glad you survived it (them)…

What did you have in the 16x20?? A few details as to what you may be after might help in getting the suggestions flowing…

Sorry to hear your loss and we all wish you luck in rebuilding. I am a newbie to model railroading so i can’t offer many suggestions. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
Mike

Hope you had flood insurance. my finished basement was wiped out after Isabel came thru in '03. state farm came thru, cause I pay enough in waterfront premiums. good luck to you

I hear you loud and clear… I, though not washed out by a hurricane, have started to rebuild a new layout and I must say that it has been the best thing that has happened to my modeling.
I had worked on one layout for about 20 years and had become stale in my thoughts and active modeling. My original layout was up and running for the National Convention in Pittsburgh many years ago, but I had lost interest in doing much on it.
I rebuilt 90% of it and left only the yard areas as they were. I started this at age 60 and beleive me it has been a real blessing. Many new ways of doing things and new technical equipment that has evolved over the last 5 years have greatly enhanced my thinking and now I can spend hours on the layout without realizing time has past.
Start from the beginning in planning stages and forget about the old ways and look to better yourselves by trying something new.
I think you’ll find that you outlook will become much brighter in doing this.
Good luck and keep us up to date.

Welcome back and glad you survived it. The train can be re-built. So, sit back some and start the planning cycle. bw1242 had some good points. Maybe get Track Planning for Realistic Operation if you do not have it.

Welcome Bearangel, I can’t even imagine what you have been thru. My brother in law is from Tulsa, where he is a State Farm Insurance adjuster. He has been posted to the gulf for months now with no end in sight. Some of the photos he has sent back are stunning in their total destruction. Were you able to salvage anything? Locomotives rolling stock etc? What scale are you wanting to work with this time around?
