"Recall" in New Products Listing for 11/26

Well I THINK our legs are being pulled by the “recall” notice in the new products listing – the one that says that the Underground Railroad Press is offering a refund to anyone who purchased plans of a Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington milk car over the last 25 (!!) years because they have “discovered” there is no known prototype for the plans. The offer is to refund the purchase price or offer a credit on future orders.
Let me get this straight – they have been selling plans of this car for 25 years, evidently without complaint, and NOW have discovered there is no prototype, and feel so bad they think they owe a refund to anyone? Geez what did they charge for those plans?
Hmmm. I wonder if someone jumped the gun on this one – sounds like a good refund offer for the April 1 new product news.
Notice that they offer to refund the purchase price of the plans (I do not know what they charged) – imagine the person who built the car? Where is their refund?
If this is for real it is decidedly odd. After all remember that Mantua sold steam locomotive kits for years for which there was no known prototype and I do not see any refund offer on them. Ah well. Happy Modeling!

methinks someone is having a laugh.

or it might be an imaginative and complex maketing wheeze

Sounds a bit like the bit in last April’s MR where they talked about people building full subway systems in HO scale and sealing them underground - I’ve never heard of anyone doing this!

April 1 - that rings a bell. What do people like to do on the first of April?

Compaq used to come up with some goodies on April fools day. They’d put these full page ads for “ground breaking new technology” in the newpapers. Things like x-ray glasses and such.
