reccomendations for a good stand in for this caboose?

I know nothing about this cab’s history, what would be a close stand-in in HO do you think? I’ve looked at the Transcona’s, the cupola’s a bit too wide.

Sure looks like an exCN van:

How to model it tho…not being a CN guy, I am not sure. I do not think there is a good stand in except brass.

Yep, sure looks like the same style. Numbering’s about right too.

Athabasca scale models makes one…as did Silvan at one point. The Athabasca model is a great etched-brass kit.

Thankee kindly. The Atahbasca does look good. Just a pinch out of thebudget right now, but it looks really nice. I’ll keep an eye on it.

With a little paint, this would be okay from 4 feet

Perhaps from across the room without my glasses…

Canadian Vans have a unique appearance to them.

That is a caboose that was built in CN’s Pointe St. Charles shops. It was designed and built by and exclusively for CN. The Athabasca and Sylvan kits are your best bet until one of the Canadian model companies decides to come out with an RTR version.

The Rapido ‘Transcona’ models are CP wide vision cabooses. The prototype was designed and built by CP. I believe most, if not all of them were built at CP’s Angus Shops in Montreal.

Your probably right, I don’t know my Canadians. My thoughts on the Transcona were that the cupola was centered and the windows in the ends were the largest I could find. Yeah, it’s really no closer to the CN than the Bachmann, but the process was getting there.

I think Centralia put out a center cup UP caboose, the windows are too small in the ends, but it would be a better starting point than the Bachmann.
