Received first Tsunami! (Now installed and working)

Thought that I would pass it along that I received my light steam Tsunami today from Tony’s. Hope you get yours soon.

(Now, how does this thing fit[:I])

[:)]REX [:)]

I think you have to solder a wire from the motor to the frame first…[:-^][:-,]

Okay, I can’t stand it!! No, don’t do that…you’ll let Randy’s magic smoke out of it.

Welllll ! How does it sound!?! Don’t keep us in suspense man!

Rex,

Congratulations!

You’re the first on the forum to get a Tsunami!!!

So, when are you going to install it? Let us know when you got her together!

The suspense is killing me!!!

Could rex be a troll? Hmmmmm. Signed up a year and a half ago, knowing that lots of folks were waiting for the Tsunami. Carefully blended in by acting like a great guy, posting questions and advice so that we would not become suspecious. And then he lowers the boom by saying “I got my Tsunami and I’m not going to tell how y’all how it sounds.”

Rex, convince me you are not a troll by posting some opinions on the new piece of electronic stuff you got!!!

Dave

Well fellows, I am going to install it QUICKLY![:p] In fact, just as soon as I shake off the dirt from getting my yard cleaned up.

I thought about a temporary hookup with one of my locos, but I decided to do it right and install the new speaker with it. Got to do her justice. Maybe I will let you hear it later in the weekend [:o)].

I did take a quick look for the fit in my 2-8-0 Bachman. With the complete removal of the light board, there is plenty of room. Without removing it will call for more modification including removing the center mounting post. This is not an option for me because of the large oval speaker that I am going to use under the coal pile.

Selector, what color wire is it that goes to chassis. Ah heck, I’ll just try’um all[:D].
'nuff for now. I’ll just be Trolling along. (Oh, Dave. Is that like Phishing,[(-D])

[(-D] [(-D] Good one, Crandell. [(-D] [(-D]

Ok, it’s in my 2-8-0 and it passed the smoke test and how sweeeeet it is! The sounds are so real. I haven’t done much with the programming except for the…you guessed it, the whistles and volume. Tried all seven of them and you have from gutteral to a toot. Great! I installed a 28 x40 oval speaker and the volume and depth is very good. I will be tweaking the other CV’s tomorrow. Since the railimages are down, I am trying this photo link.

Forgive the wiring, but I wanted to keep the leads a little long on this first go around and I also like to keep unused leads. The black looking thing on them is just some large shrink tubing to hold them. Because of the depth of the speaker, I did have to remove one plate from the weight. Other than that it all went pretty smooth.

Just out of idle curiosity, how long ago did you order? Tony’s (and others) backlogs have got to be huge. I have a feeling I’m towards the other end of the queue, and am trying not to be toooooo green with envy.

Pondini, I’m not real sure how long ago it was, maybe about 1.5 years ago or longer. I talked to them today and they do have a huge amount of orders to fill. It may make you feel better to know Tony’s is filling B.O.'s before new orders.

If you don’t already know, Soundtraxx has the downloads for the Tsunami manuals on their site now.

REX

I down loaded all of the manuals and now just waiting for my units to get here. I ordered some from at two different dealers including Tony’s off course, but my order was more recent and I might not get any of the first ones.

Thanks for the update on the sound. It is great to know they work.

Give us some more discriptions on each of the sounds please.

Just curious. Why did you choose the “light steam” for that locomotive? Is there something about the sound that makes it fit that loco. I was shopping for sound for that very same locomotive and thought the “light steam” sounded like a 4-4-0, 2-6-0, 4-6-0 type locomotive.??? I was going to go with the “medium”

TexasZ, I didn’t really have much to go on except the email that was sent from Tony’s. The Soundtraxx web site only has one sample for each decoder There are 8 whistles to choose from and there is 1 for the 2-8-0 Consolidation. I would think that the Medium Steam would still be just fine. I ordered a Heavy for my 4-8-2 Mountain.

I held back in posting this until I talked with Tony’s, but I am going to need a booster for my programming track to use service mode programming. i.e. for the address. I have a Chief and have never had a problem with QSI programming. Tony’s was surprised at this, but said the Tsunami needs a bit more power. The ops mode and everything else works just fine. So I ordered one. no big deal just thought you may want to be prepared.
