I have been working on the last few of my Westerfield kits over the last couple of weeks. They are now ready to enter service. All the cars have Kadee #5s, metal wheels, brass 8BA truck bolts and lead weight - all standard on Sweethome.
First up is a CB&Q XM18 truss rod boxcar
Next are 2 SU 36’ DS boxcars
and a PRR GRA hopper (gondola)
They are not the quickest or easiest kits to build but are amongst the best available, IMO.
As usual, looks great!! Mobile and Ohio is the railroad that Jimmie Rodgers, “The Father of Country Music” worked for. It later became Gulf Mobile and Ohio.
BTW, Blues pioneer (and Jimmie Rodgers contemporary) Robert Johnson, who wrote the song “Sweet Home Chicago” never visited Chicago; in fact, if you listen to his original recording of the song, he apparently thought it was in California!!
"Come on come on, baby don’t you want to go??
Come on come on, baby don’t you want to go??
Back to the land of California, and my sweet home, Chicago"
Boy, these are great kits and Jon, that is some great work. It is a real pleasure to see such work on the forum.
It’s too bad that Westerfield is phasing out their wonderful kits. It is just another sigh of the times. I purchased a lot of their early SP decals but have yet to build their early SP stock car kit.
