recently acquired layout

I have recently acquired a layout, which features two distinct track sets. I would like to connect these and use both for a single multi-lap layout. two types of track are used in this layout. EZ Track and regular track . several of the EZ switches are damaged and need to be replaced also. I am looking for suggestions to these problems. I only have the layout at this time. No rolling stock.

IF the turnouts are damaged you’re going to be better off replacing them. You can also tear out all the track as long as there is minimal damage to the layout and replace them with something better than EZ track. You can connect both districts with 4 turnouts one pair frog to frog left hand and one pair frog to frog right hand so that trains coming from both directions can take the turnouts into the other district from opposite directions. Be sure you insulate between the diverging route rails so that there won’t be a short if you’re using all power turnouts. If you use select control turnouts, you’ll still need to insulate the diverging route rails but will also have to cut a gap in the rails before the frog and wire around them using a SP/DT switch or the contacts #2,#3, and #4 or #5, #6, and #7 of a tortoise machine to power route the turnouts. Contacts #1 and #8 on the tortoise drive the motor.
