Recommendations for Proto 2-8-8-2 Repair?

Now that the Proto line is owned by Walther’s, who would you recommend to repair the running gear on an older model Proto 2-8-8-2? Thanks for the help.

I’d still send it to Walthers/LifeLike. They are bound by the Lifelike lifetime warranty.

If you are comfortable working on the loco, just have them send the needed parts.

CALL Walthers’ Service Department.

Depending what is wrong depends on what is charged. Proto’s ‘Heritage’ locomotives way have limited availability on parts - other than that, it’s a comparative per hr. labor charge.

Interesting post. As of last check, Walthers had not gotten around to sorting out all of the copious supply of parts they got from Life-Like. I don’t know what shape the inventory was in coming from some likely recently displeased former employees. I do know Life-Like Proto had the bar none best parts availability in the history of mankind relative to their P2K Heritage steamers. I cried when that went, but I got lucky and ordered a boatload of parts just before the changeover.

I don’t think Walthers interprets “Lifetime Warranty” the same way LL did. Better call them.
