I have a prewar 262 that keeps going into neutral when crossing my Kline snap switches. I have had it at a LHS for repairs and they can not get the engine to do this at there shop. I am guessing that it is the e-unit but an not 100% sure. This is the only engine (prewar, postwar, modern,MTH,Williams) that operates on my layout with this problem, so I don’t think l it is my switches. I am seeking help to find a repair shop to help me out. Who would you recommend? Thanks for the info.
It may be the spacing on the pick-up rollers is such that they loose contact with the power rail on the switch causing the E-unit to drop out. Also make sure that both pick-ups are connected, check continuity between the two.
Railfan, If you are “electrically challenged” like I am a simple test will tell you if there is a problem with one of the p/u rollers, assuming that there are two. Put a small piece of electrical tape over the center rail and slowly drive the engine onto it, if it stops when one roller is on the tape and the other is on the rail than there is a continuity issue.

Doug and Roger, you nailed it right on the head.[bow] The front pick up roller was not touching the track. Thank you both very much for your help. Mike
