Record breaking ridership on New York subways

Actually, the real record was on Dec 24, 1945 with 8.8 million when NYC still had elevated lines

Over six million! It’s hard to fathom that MTA’s NYC subway system could provide that number of rides all in a day’s work. It’s appropriate, too, that the People’s Climate Marchers had a role in setting the Sept. 21 record ridership by using the mass transit system that keeps the streets of New York from being all-but-impossible to navigate.

Definitely heading in the right direction. The ultimate goal should be to cover all their costs with fares paid, advertising revenue, and other non-public sources. That way they don’t have to be dependent on the whims of government officials when it comes to what services to cut or expand and such decisions can be made based on actual demand.

We were just there in early October. It was maddening from someone that lives in a town without a stoplight. BUT it was the best way to get around if you could figure out the lines and when they do and don’t run. Congrats on such a heddy number!
