Recording Marks

Where can I locate lists of recording marks used on tank cars and freight cars?

I happened to find a listing of reporting marks at the following webpage
www.eastrailnews.com

At the home page for the above page click on “Railroading 101” and then click on “Railroad Reporting Marks”. You don’t have to be a member to look at them.

I hope this helps.

Hi JD,

You can order a copy of the Railroad Equipment Registry from the Association of American Railroads at www.aar.org

This registry lists a ton of information on all rolling stock currently used by the Class 1 rr’s including reporting marks, equipment dimensions, load capacities etc.

Also, historical data can be obtained from the NMRA by ordering an ORER from 1953 or 1943. www.nmra.org

Have fun

Jeff

Hi, JD,

We also have a list of reporting marks at Trains.com. Go the the Trains Magazine home page, then click on “All About Railroads.” You’ll find reporting marks on the second page, about half-way down. Or you can follow this link: http://www.trains.com/Content/Dynamic/Articles/000/000/003/871ijytl.asp

Enjoy!
