Useful tip, I hope - take a small scrap of homasote and use that to hold down the pole while cutting - works great when modifying plastic RR ties also. Sometimes the only way to hold things is in front of the blade. Homasote is soft enough to protect what you are holding, but firm enough to catch the blade before it catches you.
