Has anyone built this layout or somthing close to it? I do not have the June 07 issue that it was suposed to be in , im just trying to figure out how to build this thing without so many short sidings and switchback’s, and it say’ all turnout’s are #5’s ?? im wondering the width of it also. I want two use two foot wide secetions all the way around. any help would be great. Thank’s Bear.

Just type “red rock and northern” in the search engine for more.

Bear - what era are you modeling? It will make a difference to see if the RR&N is for you

Hey Bear, I’m planning on building the Red Rocks Northern also, I haven’t started yet however. You can purchase 102 Realistic Track Plans no. 5, its in that issue or you can always buy the back issue of MR. I’m planning on hand laying all the turnouts, only have 3 done so far. I also need to dismantle my current layout, lucky for me the benchwork is the same as the Red Rock. Good luck
I am in the same boat also, i have already taken apart my layout, i have already build moduals so it’s an easy switch for me Goodluck also[%-)]
I am modeling late 30’s i only have steam power rite now
Bear with the 1930’s it might work then. I have been lucky enough to exchange a few e mails with Jerry Boudreaux , the designer, on how the RR&N came to be. It was built by him in Sn3 and latter converted to run HO trains. From the original RR&N -

I have also been very fortunate to exchange a few e mails with and meet with Byron Henderson, premier layout designer (http://layoutvision.com/index.html), to discuss this plan. I had built the bench work specifically for the RR&N when I first started getting with Byron. Most of what (little) I know of layout design, and especially for this track plan, comes from him.
This is a very tight plan. The art work shown in the plan is just art work and not to scale –a real pain to assist you with laying out the track. If you are a MR subscriber you can get the plan from the data base for free here -
