redwood plank roadbed

I use 1 x 6 x 6 ft. dog eared redwood fence planks which cost about $2.00 each from Home Depot

I then nail 1" wide redwood lath to each edge of the plank and saw off the dog eared end flush.

Planks are joined end to end with a short 12" piece of the same redwood plank material and deck screws

Curves are cut from 1 x 8 x 6 ft and edged similarly along the inside and outside arc.

I then use concrete bricks or pavers under each splice board or increase the height/grade using more pavers, and conc. blocks. Use a 1/2" thick block taped to the end of a 2 ft spirit level to establish a constant 2% maximum grade.

I tried you link and yahoo told me the site is gone or I typed something wrong. Still, your project sounds really intresting. - Peter

The link as entered by the OP doesn’t work for me, either. Cox Communications servers repeatedly give me a “web site does not exist” error message no matter what browser I am using, even if I retype the entire link and add http:// at the beginning.

It is a “DOT COM” not a “DOT ORG” Try here http://www.shastagrs.com/ .

That’s better! Nice railroad you got there dmikee! I see your idea on redwood is in good use. Great job and I hope to see more. - Peter
