A while back, I saw a BNSF doublestack train that was comprised mostly of refrigerated containers, many of which were powered by what I would call “stand-alone” generators – a container sized unit providing power to the reefer containers. It was love at first sight, and now I MUST have one of these trains for my own N-Scale layout. LOL !!
Unfortunately I have never seen one of these trains since then. I’m having problems finding information on these stand-alone units. Who makes them? Has anyone ever researched this or created them for their own N-Scale layout? I assume this all must be constructed from scratch, but are there helpful parts on the market anyone has found useful? I especially would like to know how many containers one of these generators would power.
I have read the article in Intermodel Modeler’s Guide, which was very helpful.
Thanks everyone. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
I had an article in “Model Railroading” magazine several years ago describing the power containers I kitbashed in HO scale. One was 20 foot model and the other was a 40 foot one.
Check with Deluxe Innovations. George, aka El Presidente, is an intermodal afficiando. If they don’t make the power containers, then he’ll know who does. If nobody does… then he’s your best chance of getting somebody to do it.
