Back in March,I found bare wires under the Cabs of my two LifeLike P2K 2-8-4’s Kanawhas (Berkshires outside the C&O world). I sent the engines back to Tony’s Trains for repairs and got them back today(06/20/08). Apparently Walthers has bought Life Like and they would not repair the engines due to a lack of parts. There was a low grade short either on the drivers or in the tender. The harness for the DCC Sound Card had melted in both units. Tony’s rewired the engines, added new harnesses and hard wired the tenders and only charged me for the return shipping. That’s $800.00 worth of engines back up and running on the Hocking Valley.
Thanks for sharing as it’s good to know who the “Good and Honourable” retailers are. We Always hear about the Horror stories. Good to hear about the good tales!
My feeling is that service like this should be widely announced and praised. Good for Tony’s Train Exchange! Talk about wanting to help one’s customers!!!
Personally knowing many of the staff at Tony’s, I can say that they are all dedicated to giving back to the customer moreso then any other retailer I’ve dealt with.
I know I can call one of my close friends whom is employed there after hours and he’ll troubleshoot and attempt to fix whatever is wrong until 3 A.M. if need be. Although, sharing a few cold ones does help [:-^]
This thread ought to be re-titled as “THANKS TONY’S TRAINS!”. I nearly missed it because of the current title which barely caught my attention.
This is great information about Tony’s Trains and its dedicated staff. If this thread were re-titled, it would be read by a larger audience of interested readers.
I had to go through and perform the same work on one of my Berkshires for the same reason (I ended up replacing the harnesses with Miniatronics plugs), and it’s NOT a quick job.
