The meatpacking industry was another great source for information and modeling. The old Jacob E. Decker and Sons plant in Mason City, Ia., was an intersesting place. Cattle cars of hogs and sheep, tank cars for lard and grease, ice bunker refrigerator cars. The plant had its own yards for all the seperate areas of cars. Even condola cars for shipping carcasas to the dog food palnt south of town. Very interesting area to model. The hormel plant in Austin, Mn. was another hot spot.
Do not forget those feed lots next to the meat packers. No skinny animals wanted. lol…
