Dave, glad to see you’re back.
I still have not figured out how to edit an existing post. Nor how to start a new topic. My latest posting had a computer error. where a Peter Witt in the underground Essex & Delancy Williamsburg Bridge Manhattan Terminal was posted twice instead of the photo below. And then could not reply a fourth time to make the correction bon the same thread. And the no 4th reply rule, with the limited capacity of each posting, means my tale of Coney Island to Hastings by streetcar cannot be posted wi8thout presenting prioblems.
Nor Jack May’s April 2025 Boston visit. Unless I find a way to sqeeze it without damaging it.
Dave, on the bottom right corner of your posts, you should see the icons shown below - I put a red circle around the edit icon. Click on that to edit your posting.
The Discourse software used by the Forum had a somewhat dubious way of assigning posting privileges: you have to ‘earn’ them by various sorts of participation. It took some careful digging around to find some of them… in unrelated discussions about the software package and its development philosophy.
Once you have posted a few times, and used some of the other kewl features, your ability to put multiple pictures in one post will be unlocked. Unfortunately, there appears to be no facility to ‘promote’ user privilege by having Nick or one of the mods go in and adjust settings.
Personally, I don’t agree with the Discourse limitation on ‘unresponded’ postings, certainly not when they are replies to specific quoted text. But that’s a system-architecture decision, unless Nick has controls to modify or disable it.
Got the help needed to edit. Now, how does one enter a new topic?
Simply navigate, using the left column, to the magazine or subject category that best suits your topic. Some, Like Model Railroader has several sub-categories. Choose wisely In my example I clicked on Classic Trains:
There, you’ll see the New Topic selection in the upper-right.
Good Luck, Ed
The “new topic” icon could also look like a pen and paper depending on what platform you are using to browse the forums:
For those concerned about my safety, the rear portion of our synagogue is designated as a safe room, with concrete construction akll around, and that is where I spend most of my time, anyway, including computer use and some food and drink intake outside the foemal meals. Furthermorer, that location and where I sleep nuights (my own ground-floor small apartment) are in mixed-ethnic Jerusalem areas ruled by Jordan 1948 - 1967, and Iran has not targeted Israeli areas with a substantial Muslim population. The Papal Nuncio, the Brigham Young University Jerusalem Center, and the Red Crescent are nearby neighbors of the Yeshiva; and the main Jerusalem Arab girl’s school a neighbor of my apartment.
Glad to hear you’re safe David! But you be careful just the same, OK?
Best wishes to you!
