I was looking for some car parameter files for XtrkCAD (Mine has none, but on the XtrkCAD wiki page the tutorials imply that you SHOULD have some when you start it up.) and found that it had gone open scource (well, technically, I already knew that) but the XtC homepage (www.sillub.com) has even gone so far to post a registration name & keycode. How do I enter these into XtC? Will it give me any parameter files? Any help will be appreciated!
I think (key word here) that you just go under file and then register and put in the info you have. Let me know if this helps.
Or download the latest version at http://www.xtrkcad.org and there is no registration required, free or otherwise.
^^That’s the thing there is no register under file, edit, view, add, change or the like across the toolbar!
^And I do have the latest version, 4.0.1. Shouldn’t that have some parameter files?
Sorry, my info was based on version 3.1.4. Now I have to go get 4.0.1. BBIALW!
Funny. I just went yesterday and got this off of my backup drive to install on my laptop (I bought it back around 2000 or so when I briefly thought I would be able to build a layout). I wasn’t aware that it had gone open source until I started looking for updates but I didn’t find the XTrkCAD Wiki with the link to v4…thanks for that. Looking forward to trying out the new version.

I believe they live in a directory under the program, with something clever like parameter in the name. I’ll look when I get home and let you know how to get to them if you don’t hear by then, there is a selection under one of the menus, but I don’t remember which.
There are not many real differences, mostly a rearrangement of a few menu items, and the deletion of the the registration one.
OK, here’sthe info:
File → Parameter Files → Browse
They (at least in my installation) are in c:\program files\xtrkcad4\params.…
Yes, you should have them. I have not registered my version and I have my Parm files. Look in your XtrkCad directory, there’s a folder in there called Parmeters.
If it is like mine, the parameter files are there, but you have to go through the steps I mentioned above to tell it which to use.
Thank you! I found them!
By the way there is a Yahoo group for Xtrkcad and a number of other parameter files are available for download.
