Remote control and dimmer module problems

I have two Evan Designs remote control/dimmers and have been unable to get either to work… I have new batteries in the handheld and have the long wires to a 3V power supply and the short wires to several 3V LED lights. I have also used an electronic voltmeter in place of the LED lights. I have double and triple checked connections and battery orientation.

I must be doing something wrong but for the life of me I cannot figure it out. I would appreciate any suggestion as to what I need to do.

you have the long red hooked up to positive on the supply, and the short red hooked up to the positive on the LEDs ??

As well as the sensor in a direct line of sight ??

and you did select the DC option, not the AC one ??
