Has anyone out there remotored a Mantual 4-6-2 Pacific engine using an
Accurate Lighting style 1 replacement can motor? If so I would like to know
how well it fit, how easy it was to install and how smooth did the engine run
afterward?
I am asking because I am thinking of doing this to my engine and would like
to know if it is worth the effort to make the change.
Thanks for any advice you may offer on this topic.
I have not used the Accurate Lighting style 1 replacement can motor, but I did remotor mine with the Helix Humper drop in replacement motor. It took about 20 minutes to take it apart, resolder the leads on to the new motor and get it running. I runs smooth and was worth the effort.
The HElix Humper remotoring “kits” are definitely the way to go when remotoring a Mantua engine. Be advised though, that there are at LEAST three different Mantua Pacific boilers. It seems that whenever Mantua changed motors they also changed the inside boiler cavity. Depending on how old the engine is, you might need to take a Dremel tool th the engine to mill out the cavity somewhat.
Try yardbirdtrains.com. They have ones that will fit any Mantua engine. If ya can get your hands on a Mantua Classics motor, the DCC plug already has a wire grounded. Just have to re-solder one wire for the positive connection and thats it!
