I am a member of a HO modular club and have been using RIX telephone poles on my modules. I have been gluing the poles into holes in the foam. Generally I end up with at least one damaged pole per setup. What alternative methods are been used to make the poles removable but still stand firmly in the foam. Some of the other club members just poke a hole in the foam but the poles tend to loosen up after a show or two.
How about gluing a section of drinking straw, plastic or metal tubing of the right size into the foam? That would spread the pressure deeper into the foam. To keep the pole for going in too deep, I’d think most anything put in the hole would fill the excess depth.
Good luck,
I dirll a small (about 1/32’') hole into the pole and insert a short wire. The layout gets the suitable brass tube.
At this video I have to remove the poles, they’re in the way of the camera.

I think latex caulk would be ideal for this. It would hold it straight and you could pull it out if need be.

Thanks for the ideas, I’ll have to find some straws or wire and tubing the right size for my poles.
