Remove name only on Bachmann Spectrum engine

I have two Bachmann Spectrum engines that do not come in the RR. that
I want. Is there any way to remove the name only?

It’s not likely that you will be able to do it, what’s usually your best bet is a repaint. It’s a lot of work but usually worth it.

I have a Spectrum Shay that I scraped the name right off of with my thumbnail.

I too have a Spectrum 2-8-0. It was marked in “Reading” Livery. I scraped the lettering off with a tea spoon. Not too sharp and not too dull, just right. Just go slow and don’t use too much force.

Once I had the lettering off I applied new decals and clear coated it. Not a trace of “Reading”.

Repaint sounds best.

I agonized over this for a while…I tried thinner, alcohol, diosol etc. Nothing worked well. Started scraping but went through the base coat to the metal, so I abandoned that real quick. My advice is to just paint over the lettering with steam power black. Works real well without the hassle of repainting. Particularly if you are going to re-decal the loco in another road name. With some weathering no one will see it, with no weathering you will be able to tell if you look real close. I did this to three shays and two 2-8-0s and am real happy with the results.

Each manufacturer applies the markings differently. I have had to use lestoil on some and the dry scrape on others. Come to thik of it I also scraped the Pennsylvania markings off my K4 Pacific but they didn’t come off as clean as the Reading on the Consolidated. So try the scraping. If it doesn’t work then paint the whole thing.
