Remove Shell from KATO GP35 ?

I recently picked up a (barely) used Kato GP35 for a song. Test ran it briefly and it seems to run beautifully. Here’s my problem- I cannot figure out how to get the shell off to look inside of the thing.

I need to add DCC (and maybe sound) but would like to take a look first. Late last night, I couldn’t see where I could spread the shell at the base to get it off and I didn’t see any screws that would be holding it on.

I feel really studpid that I cannot figure this out, but thought I’d better ask before I break something.

Secondly- aside from an original KATO shell which might be hard to find- are there any other GP35 shells that are a direct drop on for this drive? I am thinking of chaning road names and rather than strip and repaint, I could just paint a new shell.

If I remember correctly (it’s been a few years) when I installed decoders in mine, the body shells were attached like some older Atlas units (gp7’s) with locking tabs that have to be disengaged to remove the shell. I have the sheets saved in abinder at home, I’ll check them tonight and get back to ya!l

Couldnt find my instruction sheet last night, grabbed the unit and looked at it, pull 2 pins, remove couplers and pockets, then release 4 latches, 2 under the cab, 2 in the rear sides. Check your email, I know someone who might bead blast that shell for you.
