Removing a HO Mehano 2-10-2 motor question

I need to remove the motor from my Mehano 2-10-2 so I can install a decoder. Reason I need to remove it is because the bottom motor wire is to close to the frame for me to solder.

This Picture is not mine, I found it on the web.

In this picture you can see a loop that holds the back of the motor. In the front, the tap / Bracket is slotted all the way down to the chassis. I believe this is the key to getting the motor out. So far I have not been able to get it to move and don’t want to break it.

I tried HO seeker and could not find anything on this engine.

Thank you folks for looking.

From looking at the diagram, it appears that one end of the motor is held in place by the black plastic piece (bracket) which holds the front of the motor in place. From the motor to the flexible coupling to the gear is all held in place by that bracket.

Is it possible there is a slot on the bracket holdihg the motor? The bracket is held in place by two small tabs.

There are only two screws on the bottom of the frame and they attach to the cab.

It appears there are no other fastners .

Ken,

I have installed a decoder in this loco and you don’t need to remove the motor, at least I didn’t. You just have to be careful with the iron and as long as you have a small tip, there shouldn’t be a problem. I use a very low wattage iron for such work, as in 15.

If the 2-10-2 is anything like other Mehano products, the motor is held in place by plastic clips on each end. There are tabs on the bottom of the clips that can be pushed inward to release them.

Cacole, just push on the tap’s or do I need to squeeze them together and push at the same time?

Lee, all I can find is my big tip 45 watt soldering iron, don’t want to take the chances of grounding the chassis.

Thanks for the answers.

Ken

You can see the tabs under the trailing truck, they would push inward.

Thank You Don, will get at it here in a while!

Well got the decoder hooked up but cot complete installed. Checked it with Decoder Pro to make sure there were no shorts. Decoder Pro likes it! [8D]

Next fun part will be running the headlight wires over the weight in the boiler. Any tips there?

Thanks again, Ken
