Hi – first post here, hope it’s in the right spot.
I just purchased a Bachmann Spectrum Heavy Mountain 4-8-2 loco, C&O model. It is “used,” but as-new. Anyway, the left cab window is detached. It is not made to slide. I got it out from the cab, but there is no way I can re-glue it without removing the cab. I had the cab just about off, but it’s still hanging up at the top, forward-most portion. I don’t want to break it - is there something I’m missing?? If anyone with experience with these can lend a hand, I’d surely be grateful.
Do you have the shell of the engine detached from the frame or are you trying to do it all assembled? I’ve had a few steamers that had a small screw at the front of the cab holding it to the back end of the boiler. Or, there may be a couple of tabs with small tangs on them that are holding it in place and you haven’t been forceful enough yet to flex the plastic to override the tangs. You need to have the shell off the chassis, then you can see what you are doing.
Keep the group posted. Someone in train land knows exactly what you need to be doing.
I think with the Bachman Heavy 4-8-2 there’s a small screw up inside the boiler which holds the front of the cab (I can’t quite remember - and as I’ve sold the loco now I can’t check)

I think there indeed may be a screw up there, but I don’t want to get into tearing this thing down just to get the darn window back in… If it comes down to that, I’ll let you know what was involved, but in the meantime, I’ll see if I can pu***he envelope of my motor skills with some tweezers. [:)]
Wrap some masking tape inside out on a Q-tip and manuver the window with that. If you get the ones without the plastic stems they will take a set and that helps, and they are light enough they shouldn’t pull the window out before the glue sets. Worked on a P2K 0-8-0 REAR cab window, but man it was a bear getting there.
