Removing Lettering from Accurail Cars

Actually these are slated for sugar beet service.

Interesting about the powdered charcoal vs. chalks with flat finishes.

I thin the Vallejo black with straight 70% alcohol.

The idea of using water with a bit of dish detergent never occurred to me! I will try that on the next car I weather. If it does allow the wash to properly wet the surface my issues with decals reacting to the alcohol will be over.

Thanks!

I seem to recall some folks using straight iso alcohol to strip off lettering and/or paint.

I use a little tupperware cup with a cover, it’s probably about equal to one measuring cup. Except for maybe a teaspoon of alcohol and that much or less of acrylic paint, the rest is just water.

I have had some success with an eraser…

So, why not weather the 979 car?

Rich

I am. It’s in process now.

Excellent. Looking forward to the results because that decal job on the 979 car looked best.

Rich

What a disappointment that will be…

I will be the judge of that. :innocent:

Okay Rich, here it is…

Here’s five of the seven complete. One is ready for weathering and the last one I have to put new decals on.

Mark, you have a winner there. Those cars are phenomenal. My faith in you has been restored.

Maybe you should make an appointment with your optometrist, Rich…

[Thanks!]

I did one better. I made an appointment with my ophthalmologist for tomorrow. He is also a model railroader, so I will take your photos with me.
