How do I remove the numbers from the Athearn Ford C fire trucks? I would like to renumber a few of the pumpers.
I think some experimentation may be required but the last time I removed lettering was from a Classic Metals truck with a CP logo on the door. After trying a few things I decided to give my Tamiya Extra Thin styrene solvent cement a try and it cleaned the letters off easily without harming the paint. The Tamiya stuff is really not any different from any other liquid styrene cement except it is a little thinner. I would caution that different manufacturers use different paints so I would do a test on the underside of the vehicle first to see how the paint reacts. Also, if you have other lettering close to the numbers that you want to remove you will have to be very careful indeed! I know this from experience!! Hope this helps.

Do you thin it or do you apply it full strength?
I normally use Solveset and a pencil eraser. Apply Solveset to the lettering, let soak for a few minutes and rub with the eraser. Be careful though, some paint is softer then others, and may come off if you rub to hard.

I use two methods. One is to apply 90% alcohol to the decal with a q-tip and gently rub it until it comes off. They also make Poly S paint and decal remover that also works well that you can get from a LHS or mail order internet site. Just leave it on long enough to remove the decal. Too long and it will start to eat into the paint. Some paints it won’t work at all on. I bought an old Rovissori Heavy weight passenger car recently and the decal and paint remover didn’t work. I ended up lightly sanding the decal off with 800 grit sand paper to remove the decals…chuck
Thanks for all the info I will experiment and see which one works best for me.
