Removing WS Smooth-it

I am in the process of removing approx 10’ of smooth-it from my layout. It is on top of 2" foam board and up against track. Does anyone have any ideas or tricks to get this off my layout, I have scraped a good bit of it off and in the process dug up some of the foam board in the process. I was thinking of spraying the remaing smooth-it with water and letting it soak in for a while. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. I don’t want to have to rip up the track that the smooth-it is stuck to it.

Rather than spraying the Smooth-it, a more efficient process would be to cover it with a damp cloth, then scrape it off layer by layer with a sharp chisel. You want to avoid getting down to the paper backed foil that covers the foam too quickly-that is how the foam becomes gouged. The idea is to soften the Smooth-it garadually, but steadily.

What paper?

Why worry about damaging the foam at all? You can always patch the damage.

I’m no chemist and I have never worked with the smooth it product, but I’ve always found that water-based anything tends to break down quicker when 90% alcohol is applied.
