I was thinking today about an engine that I’ve had in the BLI service department since this past Nov. 3, and that it was getting to be a long time. They told me via email that it would probably be about 6 to 8 weeks. I’m not overly concerned about it but I was wondering how long some of you have had engines in for repair, not just at BLI, but any where.
Well, you are sititng right at the 8 week mark now, and there was the holiday season in there as well. What does BLI say now about when you will get it back?
And I have never had to send a loco back for repair (so far, knock on wood [banghead] ) so do not know a resonable time.
I haven’t asked them, don’t want to bug’em about it. I won’t start getting concerned for another couple of weeks. As you said, the holidays were in there and that counts for something.
My F unit went in for just about 8 weeks. I stayed in contact via email every few weeks.
My Reading T-1 was gone for a very long 4 weeks after I deemed it very bad and sent it back. They were very precise in fixing that engine and it was about a year ago at this time.
I had a bachmann 4-6-0 tender get destroyed a few years back and I had a new one purchased within a week from stock at the factory.
My service experiences are rather infrequent but I have had nothing but good luck with being kept up to date on the very long and eagerly awaited return.
Since I repair my own engines, I can’t help you out there
But, the longest time one of mine was “in the shop” was about 2-3 hours. I was mounting Kadees on one of my Athearn F units, and somehow broke the tap in the hole! Since I didn’t have the proper tools, I took it to the local hobby shop, and they took care of it. After about 2 hours (and cursing), the frame was good as new
