Repairing and reviewing the ORIGINAL Life-Like F40PH!

How many of you knew that Life-Like’s HO scale F40PH used to come with a central 5-pole motor and a massive diecast weight before the common pancake-motor version? I decided to purchase one and see what they’re like!

Great job fixing the gears Darth! Very informative.

Your re-magnetizer machine is very intriguing… I assume you’ve had success re-magnetizing other motors, like Pittman motors? Is it a reasonnable alternative to a replacement of the magnet with rare earth magnets?

Thanks!
The remagnetizer has been useful and recharged quite a few motors. Neodymium is still an upgrade to the typical Pittman and other similarly designed motors, but for motors with single-piece cast magnets (such as older Athearn, Lindsay, early Bowser), recharging is the only option.
