OK, before you say it, I already know Bachmann is crap, but I have a N-scale Spectrum Dash 8-40 with a broken axel and I’m having trouble finding a replacement axel. It only has maybe 2hrs running time max and it ran great until I broke the axel.
[#oops]
I already bought an Atlas Dash 8-40 to replace it, but I just can’t leave it alone. It’s bugging me and I have to fix it. I don’t think supper glue will work.[sigh]
I sent in a request to Bachmann Parts and I have not heard anything from them. I thought about buying something off eBay to salvage parts off of but I don’t really understand how eBay works.[%-)]
Does anybody have any ideas as to where I might find an axel?
I’m part of that minority here who is quite fond of Bachmann’s Spectrum line. You have a couple choices here.
The first is to send it to Bachmann’s repair folks. If you’ve had this unit longer that one year, a repair will cost you $10, if you’ve had it less than a year, no charge.
If you feel up to disassembling this unit, your second option is to get replacement parts. When I had a bent axel issue on a B23-7, Bachmann couldn’t get me an individual axel, so I had to settle for two complete power truck assemblies. This may be the case with your locomotive as well. In which case you’ll then have extra parts on hand!
Either way, I would call their customer service which is 800-356-3910.
