Replacements for Proto FA numberboards

Ebay seller says (2) shells for Proto FAs have numberboards included; of course, they have the fixture which illuminates the numberboards and NO NUMBERBOARDS. I despair of finding any genuine replacements, so I’m hoping you guys know of some (clear) material that I can use to fashion my own.

For these options you’ll have to be patient with carefully cutting and shaping:

  1. Lowe’s does stock an 8" x 10" clear acrylic sheet that is .093" thick. This may work for you. Sells for about $4. Part number: Item #: 72055 | Model #: 1PC0081A.

  2. Hobby store: K&S Plastic Sheets. 9" x 12" .010 thick Plastic Sheets. Stock #1301 Price around $3.60.

I hope this helps [:D]

Duh! I thought the K&S wouldn’t look so good; I’d forgotten about the acrylic, but that’s what I had in my mind’s eye!

Imho, either option would look good, but the acrylic is less flexible and seems to be the best route to take.

Nice thing about a 9" x 12" sheet is that you have plenty of material to create your number boards from.

I just fabricated a numberboard for my Erie FA2 using a scrap of .060" thick clear plastic from my scrapbox (think it is styrene?) and then added A-Line metal number stencils. Worked great and then the other day I found the box from the engine and inside it was the missing numbrer board? Oh well, I was a nice exercise in scratch building a replacement part.
