Replacing plactic with metal/brass

Hey guys is it possible to replace the plastic guard rails on some of my loco’s with metal or brass. LMK Joe

The handrails? Yes. I’m actually looking into doing this on one of my locomotives, as they’ve gotten broken in a few spots, and that plastic is impossible to glue. All you need is the porper gauge brass rod/wire, and some aftermarket stanthions. I know Gold Medal Models makes N scale photoetched brass stanchions. Don’t who makes them in other scales.

Handrails as well as the front handrails on the front of my BLI switcher. Do companies have this stuff ?and do I just need to know the type of train I have…

For HO use Smokey Valley stanchions. I use the stanchions only and bend my handrails with .015 brass. The rails in the kit are in too many sections and is more difficult to keep long hood sections straight. The brass wire can be either CA or soldered as I do.
A properly detailed loco with Smokey Valley and other proper detail parts is sure a thing of beauty.
