Report: Single Chinese port outpaces eight largest US ports

Let’s make sure that there’s enough money in the budget to pay for those that don’t work… Our government doesn’t earn the money they spend, we do. And to give something to some that doesn’t have and doesn’t work, means that they have to take it from someone that does work, and already has… Who’s got time to worry about building our future? I sure has hell don’t, I’m too busy working to provide for those who don’t.

America had it’s time in the sun as a great nation. Now it’s China’s turn. We only have ourselves to blame for electing those who let it happen. They can’t say they didn’t see it coming. Nixon was in office when trade with China was opened. I think the US industrial complex wanted it this way. Chinese labor is cheap for now. Too bad we can’t “market” the air in all those empty containers heading back to Asia. Maybe then we could have a world class port in this broken country. It’s sad if your a working class American these days.

Appears to be another bash America first article. The problem here isn’t government not having the ability to take over American businesses and tell them how to export. They are already doing that with Government Motors and all those failing solar panel businesses. How well is that working out?

If America is to compete globally, the solution is to get government out of the way. Regulations prevent businesses from competing because they have to devote more and more resources to fulfilling government regulations. These resources would otherwise be going to research and development, increasing productivity, expansion of operations, or possibly even a pay increase for the best employees who could then turn around and create more demand for American products. Instead, we have a Socialist anti-business government which sees all private business as evil. Unless, of course, the business in on the most favored crony capitalist list, like General Electric.

You three are spot on with the lack of Government and the over abundance of government. NO one to blame but ourselves. Maybe someday someone will have the sense to realize that the answer to our economy is the infrastructure.
Once we commit resources to our own needs instead of giving the money away or sending it overseas we can address these points. I also find it interesting that the article is combining high speed rail with freight rail. Does not make sense to me…

Chna is like all countries in history, Start off great, builds, expands. then greed sets in…Wait until the workers START TO ORGANIZE…

Over the last two years, the US has spent five times as much as China each year on defense, including on both our military and private military contracts. We’ve spent roughly ten times as much as Japan and Russia in the same areas. If we could pare that way down to truly essential levels, we would be able to support other pressing needs in a balanced way. Dwight Eisenhower’s stern warning about the growing military-industrial complex and the consequences it will lead to has gone unheeded, and look where we are now - falling behind.

This is to Jeff Guse: In China, the government doesn’t get out of the way, it is the way. As in India where five or so “ruling families” have dominated big business, the powerful run things. In America, our government structure has allowed businesses to develop in an political setting that attempts to balance their profit motives with the social, environmental and economic needs of our citizens. Perhaps, based on your life philosophy, you would be more “comfortable” living in China or India. I am sure there is an American enclave in Shanghi where you would could live and work and have your business ideals fit the reigning government.

The Enviro-Nazies work very hard here in WA at preventing the opening on two major coal exporting terminals and this is characteristically aided and abetted by the EPA. Don’t underestimate our ability to shoot ourselves in the foot

For once, I agree with Jeffery. And Mario is right on target!
