I’d appreciate recommendations for a pacific type to run on my loosely UP based rr. I am aware only of an IHC offering in UP logo, which seems to have the same boiler (and road number) as their UP mikado.

I want to be able to operate on code 83 track, and DCC ready is always a plus.

The IHC is a good choice for what you desire. There are no reasonably priced accurate models of UP Pacific locomotives.

I would do a Mantua 4-6-2.

Those Locomotives are bullet Proofe and can pull the layout across the floor.
